More Preserved Railways' Pics

Just four contributors have provided 23 pics for today's post, 14th October 2016, including 15 from the UK's Heritage Railways.

WINWICK & BEYOND

First up are seven shots from Colin Platt all taken on his recent visit to the Severn Valley Railway "Pacific Power" event. Number one shows the ex LNER 'A1/A3', 4-6-2, No.60103 Flying Scotsman, in the engine shed at Bridgnorth. Behind is the ex BR (WR) outside cylinder 0-6-0 pannier tank No. 1501. The pic is dated 23rd September 2016.

Colin's second shot features the 'new build' Peppercorn 'A1' No.60163 Tornado, at Bewdley on 23rd September 2016.

Pic number three also shows the same loco, No.60163, at Bewdley as it was waiting to do the run-around to pick up its carriages. The date was the same 23rd September 2016.

The ex SR, Bulleid 4-6-2, No.34027 Taw Valley - of the 'West Country' class - is pictured next at Bewdley on the same date, 23rd September 2016.

The next two shots both feature ex GWR, Collett 4-6-0 'Manor' class locomotives, this one showing No.7802 Bradley Manor. The loco is heading towards Hampton Loade with a passenger service on 21st September 2016.

No.7812 Erlestoke Manor is up next, from Colin, taken at Hampton Loade Station on 21st September 2016.

Colin's seventh and last shot in this post shows class 50, diesel locomotive, 50031 Hood. The location was Bridgnorth and the date, 20th September 2016.

Eight shots from David Quayle now follow, taken at four locations. His first depicts several locos at Buckfastleigh Station, on the South Devon Railway (SDR). Pictured are 0-6-0 pannier tank No.1369, 2-8-0 No.3205, diesel shunter D3721 and 0-6-0 pannier tank, No.6412. The pic is dated 27th September 2016.

The ex GWR, Collett pannier tank 0-6-0, No.1369, is again featured in this second pic from David taken by the Buckfastleigh signal box on the SDR. Note the bell on the side and the chalk-drawn logo on the tank. The date was the same, 27th September 2016.

Also taken at Buckfastleigh on the same date was ex GWR, '2251' class locomotive No.3205, of Charles Collett.

David's next two pics above were taken on the Dartmouth Steam Railway at Paignton on 27th September 2016. Both feature ex GWR Collett 4-6-0 'Manor' class loco No. 7827 Lydham Manor. Behind No.7827 in the left hand shot is ex GWR, Churchward large 'Prairie' 2-8-0, No.4277. An observation coach is clearly visible in the second shot.

The West Somerset Railway is the location for David's next two shots, both  taken on 21st September 2016. This one depicts ex GWR, Collett 'Hall' class 4-6-0, No.4936 Kinlet Hall. The location was Minehead and the loco in the background is 'Manor' class 4-6-0, No.7828 Odney Manor.

This shot, also from Minehead, features the 'Modified Hall' class 4-6-0, No.6960 Raveningham Hall - a Hawksworth-modified Collett design.

David's final shot in this post was taken on the East Lancs Railway at Ramsbottom on 18th September 2016. Pictured is Riddles, ex BR 'Standard' class 4, 2-6-4T No.80080, exiting the station with a passenger service.

Jeff Nicholls is up next with a further seven shots. The first two shots above depict EWS (DBS) class 66, 66105. Shot one (left) shows the loco  running round its train at Latchford Sidings with the Mersey Bridge behind; shot two (right) shows it attached to its train of empty car transporter carriers which it has brought from Garston. The pics are dated 5th October 2016.

Jeff's third shot features Freightliner class 66, 66610 passing Crosfields with empty coal hoppers bound from Fiddlers Ferry P.S. to Ferrybridge P.S. The latter is currently out of service and trains are moving stockpiles of unused coal  to FFPS and other power stations. The pic is dated 5th October 2016.

A Wigan-Wigan working of a Network Rail MPV railhead treatment unit, DR98982 +98932, is up next in pic number four from Jeff, taken at Red Bank on 5th October 2016. The vehicle can be seen clearly spraying the track.

Pic number five from Jeff is of interest to all train enthusiasts who use 'our' bridge - a 'sign of the times' as Jeff describes it. As trainspotting / railway photography cannot be described as anti-social, I'm sure the sign is not aimed at our activities but we must be aware of it.

The DRS class 37/class 57 combination, 37069 and 57305 Northern Princess, featured in pic number six from Jeff, was en route from DRS at Crewe to Sellafield. The location was Winwick and the date, 12th October 2016.

EWS (DBS) class 66, 66105, pictured in Jeff's final shot, was heading a sand train, Arpley Sidings - Ravenhead, through Winwick on 12th October 2016.

After those three, huge contributions, here is my humble, single offering. Featured is 'The Lune Rivers Trust' Special that ran Carnforth - Chester - Carnforth on 1st October 2016. The location was Red Bank and the loco was ex LMS, Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45690 Leander.
