More SR and LMS Steam

Today's post. 30th July 2016, comprises nineteen pics from five contributors including a few shots of preserved steam locos from the Southern and LMS Railways.


WINWICK AND BEYOND



First up are eight shots from David Quayle.The first five were taken during his visit to the Mid Hants Railway (MHR), often called 'The Watercress Line'. Number one was taken at Ropley on 16th July 2016 and shows ex SR 'Schools' class 'V' 4-4-0, No. 925 (BR 30935) Cheltenham, designed by Richard Maunsell.







The second pic was taken at the same location, same date, and features ex SR 'West Country' class 4-6-2, No.34007 Wadebridge, designed by Oliver Bulleid. To the right is ex BR '9F' class 2-10-0. No. 92212, designed by Robert Riddles. To the left is No.925 again.








The third of David''s shots from Ropley taken on the same date features Ivatt class '2MT' tank locomotive No.41312. The loco is pictured alongside the tender of Urie/Mounsell 'S15' class 4-6-0, No.30828.









Ropley again, same date for this one from David showing the wider shed scene. In the picture are Nos.925, 41312, 34007 and 92212 described previously; class '08' shunter D3358, 'Lord Nelson' class 4-6-0 No.850 (BR 30850) Lord Nelson, ex LMS 'Black V' class 4-6-0 No.45379, and ex BR class '11'  re-numbered shunter 12049 (previously 12082). This shot was taken from the bridge previously used at Kings Cross Station - details on the MHR website.







This shot focuses on class '9F' 92212 in the previous shed scene at Ropley; same date.











David's following pics were taken at Winwick and feature two ex LMS designs of (Sir) William Stanier.  This one shows ex LMS class '5XP' (BR class '6P') No.45690 Leander with support coach on 23rd July 2016.



















The above two shots are both of ex LMS 'Princess Coronation' class '8P' 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland heading the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' through Winwick on 23rd July 2016.




John Smith has sent in the following four shots. His first was taken at  Knottingley and shows class 09 diesel shunter 09106. The date - 13th June 2016.










Pic number two from John features EWS (DBS) class 66, 66016 leaving Potters with a Knowsley - Wilton working on 5th July 2016.











Freightliner class 66, 66505 is up next working an intermodal at Bolton Percy. The working was Tyne Dock - Felixestowe on 6th July 2016.











John's fourth and final shot was taken at  St Helens Junc' on 24th July 2016 and shows Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45690 Leander, (details above) on the Liverpool - Holyhead 'North Wales Coast Express'.










The next three pics are from Bevan Price. This one was taken near Atherton on 5th July 2016. Pictured is EWS (DBS) class 66, 66016 with a binliner empties working, Wilton - Knowsley,










Pic two from Bevan was taken near Rainford on 14th July 2106. Similar working as in Bevan's previous shot (binliners) but headed by EWS (DBS) class 66, 66105.










Bevan's third shot was taken at Weaste Cement Terminal on 22nd July 2016. Freightliner class 66, 66622 is depicted shunting cement tanks which had arrived earlier from Northfleet. When empty they were taken to Tunstead.










Two shots from Alan Rigby now follow. First up are double heading DRS class 37s, 37612 and 37606 at Llanfair PG working Valley - Crewe spent nuclear fuel flasks. The shot is dated 11th July 2016.









Alan's second  pic focuses on the Belmond 'Royal Scotsman' Railtour from Holyhead to Gloucester.  The locos are GBRf class 66s - 66743 and 66746. The location was Bangor and the date, 11th July 2016.






















The next two shots in this post are from Mark Tombs and both feature Stanier 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland on the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' on 23rd July 2016 - see details above with previous pics.  The train was passing Dallam sidings at 08.50hrs  in shot one, running Crewe - Carlise (left) and at Dallam at 18.10hrs in shot two (right), returning Carlisle - Crewe.

Twenty-five UK Pics.

Twenty-five pics from 6 contributors comprise today's post, 16th July 2016.

WINWICK & BEYOND


The first three pics are from David Wood. All show EWS (DBS) class 66, 66016 on the Wilton -Knowsley Freight TML' binliner' working. This one was taken on 5th July 2016 at Rainford Junction.








David's second shot of the same working was taken at Orrell on the same day.










David's third shot of this working was taken from Upholland station on 12th July 2016.









Ieuan Wood has sent in the following pair of pics. His first was taken at Winwick on 14th July 2016 and features double heading DBS class 90s - 90024 and 90019. The working was an intermodal.








Ieuan's second shot shows  'The Royal Scotsman' 7-day, British tour. The location was Frodsham on day 3, featuring the Dundee - Chester leg, on 10th July 2016. The locos were GBRf class 66s - 66746 and 66743 in superb Royal Scotsman livery.








The next four shots are from Bevan Price. His first was taken on 15th June 2016 at Barrow-in-Furness. DRS class 37, 37402 Stephen Middlemore 23.12.1954 - 8.6. 2013, waits to depart for Carlisle (left) whilst DRS class 37, 37424 has just arrived from Preston.






Bevan's second shot was taken on 14th June 2016 at Dumfries and features GBRf class 66, 66742 ABP Port of Immingham Centenary 1912 - 2012 with Tyne - Greenburn MGR empties.







Ashley is the location for pic three from Bevan, taken on 22nd June 2016. DBS class 66, 66118 is pictured with a Dowlow - Theale stone working.








Bevan's fourth and final shot was taken at Lostock Gralam on 22nd June 2016. GBRf class 66, 66712 Peterborough Power Signalbox is depicted with a Drax P.S - Liverpool biomass empties working.







The next four shots are from Alan Spencer. Shot one shows Freightliner class 70,70005, on a Coatbridge - Daventry intermodal through Winwick on 28th June 2016.








Alan's next two pics (left and right), of EWS (DBS) class 67, 67008, were taken at Winwick on the same date, 28th June 2016. The loco is heading MkIII stock (Arriva livery) working Manchester Piccadilly - Holyhead.







A Pendolino disappearing around the Winwick Jnc curve  is the subject of shot number three from Alan. The lead car was 390 122. The pic is dated  28th June 2016.








A duo from Alan Rigby now follow - both from Winwick on 10th July 2016. His first shows 'The Royal Scotsman' Britain tour again, led by GBRf class 66, 66746 (left). The second shot (right) shows the tail loco - GBRf class 66, 66743.



The final ten shots in this post are from Jeff Nicholls. This one was taken at Red Bank on 5th July 2016 and shows the Tesco intermodal headed by two DRS class 68s - 68008 Avenger and 68015.






Pic two from Jeff was taken on the ELR on 8th July 2016. The class 31 loco 5580 (previously 31162) was entering Ramsbottom Station with a service from Rawtenstall, heading to Heywood. The safety token is shown being transferred to the signalman.






The 'Warship' class '42', D832 Onslaught is the subject of another pic from the ELR.  The loco is heading empty stock out of Ramsbottom sidings to form a service to Bury. The pic is dated 8th July 2106.







Another from Jeff's ELR visit features 'Peak' class '46', D182 (previously 46045) leaving Ramsbottom with a Heywood - Rawtenstall service. This pic is also dated 8th July 2016. Note that the loco is in the short-lived 'Chromatic Blue' livery.







The next three shots are all from the ELR, and Jeff.  This one features 'Peak' D182 again on a Rawtenstall - Heywood service at Irwell Vale on 10th July 2016. Another 'Peak', 45108, is just visible on the tail.







Class 56, 56098  was on another Rawtenstall - Heywood service having just left Summerseat on 10th July 2016.









Another 'Peak' shot shows 45108 T & T with D108 leaving Irwell Vale with a Heywood - Rawtenstall service on 10th July 2016.









Jeff's next shot was taken at Stafford on 21st June 2016. Depicted is DRS class 68, 68001 Evolution. The working was a Mountsorrel - Crewe B.H. engineers train. In the background is 92014 (Caledonion Sleeper livery) on test.







Number nine from Jeff features DRS class 68, 68018 Vigilant, at Bank Quay with a Carlisle - Crewe engineers train. The pic is dated 21st June 2016.








The final shot from Jeff and in this post features double heading DBS  class 90s - 90040 and 90035. The location was Tamworth Low Level, the date was 21st June 2016 and the working was Mossend - Daventry containers.

Old Alder Lane - Business as Usual

Today's post, 12th July 2016, is a short one (a normal one will follow soon) but very important. Old Alder Lane bridge has been successfully and completely refurbished and normal service can be resumed. Alan Rigby has sent in the following pics to support this.







I must admit that it looks very smart in its freshly painted LMS livery but much higher than before.
