This post, 17th December 2015, comprises pics taken in the UK and Burma, fourteen in all from 4 contributors. The aftermath of Storm Desmond - early terminations and diversions -  is featured in the final three pics.

WINWICK & BEYOND

We begin at Winwick with five shots from Alan Rigby. The first shows the Christmas-liveried 'Penguilino', 390013, working from Preston to Euston on 8th December 2015. The design includes Chrismas penguins, hence the nickname.

Next is double heading class 56s - 56301 (Hanson Traction) and 56098 (non-TOC) working Hotchley Hill - Kilmarnock on 11th December 2015.

Alan's third pic features DBS class 90, 90024 (still in First ScotRail livery) working Warrington Royal Mail Terminal - Glasgow Shieldmuir on the same date, 11th December 2015.

The next two shots from Alan were both taken on 16th December 2015. The first shows double heading DBS class 90s - 90018 and 90020 Collingwood heading a late Dollands Moor - Irvine China Clay Tanks working.

(Freightliner stored) class 66, 66415 is the subject of Alan's last pic, working Lockerbie - Daventry.

The following five shots have been sent in by David Quayle. His first was taken on the ELR at Bury. David took this shot from a dmu after travelling from Bury to Heywood. The train pictured, had the Hughes / Fowler 'Crab'  2-6-0 No.13065 on one end and class 31 diesel 31466 (pictured) on the other. The pic is dated 28th November 2015.

David's next four shots were all taken on a recent visit to the Far East which included Myonmar (formerly Burma) and the city of Yangon (formerly Rangoon). He peeked over the wall at the Railway Station, camera in hand, and the results now follow. This shot shows diesel loco DF 1251 at Yangon Railway Station.

This third shot from David features diesel DF1251 again but also  shunter DD930.

Shunter DD930 is featured again here, in the distance, with the station as the backdrop.

The fifth and final shot from David shows the external station approach. As can be clearly seen and appreciated, it is a grand old colonial building but is in urgent need of repair.

John Smith has sent in the following shot taken at Lea Green on 11th December 2015. Pictured is a possible first for the location, a Freightliner class 66 hauling empty scrap boxes, Liverpool - Crewe. The loco is Freightliner/Shanks liveried class 66, 66522.

The final trio of pics are from Jeff Nicholls, taken when Storm Desmond had caused panic and destruction on the WCML. His first shows top and tailing DRS class 57s on a 'Northern Belle' trip working Manchester - Carlisle. The storm meant that the trip terminated at Preston. The pic is dated 5th December 2015; the location was Golborne Junction, coming off Lowton Curve. The locos were 57301(T) Goliath and 57305(T) Northern Princess.

EWS (DBS) class 66, 66077 Benjamin Gilbert GC, is pictured next from Jeff taken at Culcheth on 8th December 2015 working a Shieldmuir - Dallam Christmas extra mail working. The train was diverted via the ECML because of Storm Desmond.

The final shot in this post is of electric class 86, 86259 Les Ross at Red Bank on 5th December 2015. The working was Euston - Appleby, stopping at Carnforth for steam to be attached..... And that's as far as it got.

IF I DON'T POST AGAIN BEFORE CHRISTMAS, MAY I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK ALL OUR CONTRIBUTORS AND SUPPORTERS AND WISH YOU ALL -   A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HEALTHY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
