A Railway Pot Pourri

Today's post, 29th June 2013, is another bumper edition with nineteen pics featured from eight contributors and they constitute a real 'pic n mix' of approximately twenty nine locomotives. There will be one more post for June dated pics to qualify for the monthly competition.


WINWICK


First up are three pics from Jeff Nicholls. The Colas Rail liveried class 56, 56302 is pictured on the logs working, Carlisle - Chirk, through Winwick on 26th June 2013.

Pic number two from Jeff features double heading DRS class 66s, 66425 and 66433 on the Tesco intermodal working of 12th June 2013. The location was Winwick. Using the trees as a natural frame improves the picture.

Jeff's third shot shows a diesel quadruple header, light engine, through Winwick on 5th June 2013. The locos were class 31, 31190, class 50, 50015 Valiant, class 33, 33109 Captain Bill Smith RNR and class 37, 37901 Mirrlees Pioneer.  The foursome were heading to the GCR Gala from the ELR.

Alan Rigby has sent in pic number four showing another logs working (empty) through Winwick on 23rd June 2013. At the head was Colas Rail class 56, 56302 and Colas Rail class 66, 66850.

John Smith's pic, number five features that famous duo once again, the 'Earl' and the 'Duchess'. 'Castle' class 4-6-0, No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe is seen fronting 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland at Winwick Junction on 14th June 2013. David Wood has sent in the following two pics, numbers six and seven. DBS class 60, 60079 is shown in pic number six, taken off Leech Lane bridge not far from St Helens Junction station. The working was LBT-FFPS coal and the date, 19th June 2013.

The 'electric  blue' class 86 is shown in David's next pic, number seven. Speeding through Red Bank on 20th June 2013 was the 'celebrity' loco 86259, Les Ross.

Pic number eight is from David Quayle, a further variation on the 'Earl' and the 'Duchess' theme. Taken rounding the bottom bend at Red Bank, David's shot is dated 14th June 2013.

ALTERNATIVE UK PICS



First up in this section are two shots from Geoff Monks showing the visiting North American A4s. The first, pic number nine, shows No. 4489 Dominion of Canada, taken at the NRM on 28th June 2013.

Geoff's second shot, number ten overall and taken at the NRM on the same date, features No.60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The two A4s in Geoff's shots are to be re-united with the four in UK preservation, at the NRM's 'Great Gathering' in July. The latter will celebrate Mallard's 1938 world speed record of 126mph - 75 years ago.

Pics seventeen and eighteen are from David Quayle following his visit to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. Pic seventeen shows a scene at Haverthwaite including Bagnall 0-6-0ST No.2682 Princess, Hunslett 0-6-0ST No.3698 Repulse, and Barclay 0-6-0T No.1245. David adds that the locos were built in 1942, 1950 and 1911, respectively.    Code - June A20

Best of the GWR and LMS

Today, 21st June 2013, I am using nineteen pics several of which feature steam locomotives, notably a 'Castle' and a 'Duchess'.



WINWICK



First up are two pics from Jeff Nicholls. Pic number one shows double heading DRS class 57s, 57008 and 57010, heading an intermodal working through Winwick on 19th June 2013.

Pic number two, from Jeff, features the celebrity 'tug', the blue liveried 60074  Teenage Spirit. The loco is working empty coal hoppers from FFPS to LBT. The pic is dated 19th June 2013.

John Smith has sent in the next two pics. The first, number three overall, shows one of Charles Colletts finest, ex GWR 'Castle' class 4-6-0, No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe leading one of William Stanier's finest, ex LMS 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland.  The 'Special' was 'The Cumbrian Conqueror' running Carnforth - Shap - Carlisle - Shap - Crewe - Tyseley; John's shot of the return leg was taken at Red Bank on 15th June 2013.

Double heading DRS class 37s are up next, pic number seven, courtesy of Bob McClellan. Bob was at Winwick for the daily  intermodal, this time running 90 minutes late. Locos were 37610 T.S. (Ted) Cassady 14.5.61 - 6.4.08, and 37607. Bob's pic is dated 13th June 2013.

David's third pic, number ten overall, highlights WCRC class 47, 47760. The loco was on the tail of 'The William Shakespeare' railtour running Barrow - Stratford-on-Avon. WCRC class 47, 47826, was at the head. The shot, a fine example of a 'glinter', was taken on 5th June 2013.

Bob McClellan has sent in pic number fourteen showing GBRf class 66, 66703 Doncaster PSB 1981-2002, heading Tunstead - Brentford loaded hoppers. The location was Chinley East Junction and the date, 17th June 2013.

Matthew Chambers is up next with pics fifteen, sixteen and seventeen. Pic fifteen was taken at Ince Moss Junction on 1st June 2013 and depicts GBRf class 66, 66720  with Doncaster Decoy - LBT coal hoppers.

Nigel Gresley's ex LNER  'K1' class 'Mogul' 2-6-0, No.62005, is up next, pic eighteen from David Quayle. The shot was taken at Bury Baron Street on 23rd February 2013.








Finally, pic nineteen is also from David Quayle. Pictured is ex SR Urie/Maunsell 'S15' class 4-6-0, No 825 at Darnholme. The passenger service was approaching Goathland on the NYMR on 10th May 2013.

Thirteen from Seven

Today's post, 12th June 2013, comprises thirteen pics from seven contributors.


WINWICK


First up are a couple of pics from David Wood. Number one shows double heading DRS class 37s in charge of spent nuclear fuel flasks from Sellafield. The location was Winwick and the date, 5th June 2013. Only the first 37 was identified as 37605.

David's second shot features a convoy of four locos on the move from the ELR to the GCR  - they were 37901 Mirrlees Pioneer, 33109 Captain Bill Smith RNR, 50015 Monarch and 31190. The location and date were as above.

Jeff Nicholls has sent in the following two pics. The first, pic number three overall, features EWS (DBS) class 92, 92011 Handel heading DIT (dead in tow) EWS (DBS) class 66, 66110. The working was china clay, the location was Winwick and the date was 5th June 2013.

The fifth pic was sent in by Geoff Monks. The post of 12th January 2013 described my intention to extend our Winwick patch to include the L&M line up to Rainhill. This shot, of the blue 'tug', 60074 Teenage Spirit, was taken at Rainhill on 7th June 2013. The working was LBT-FFPS coal.

Geoff Monks pic, number eleven, shows off the magnificent Saddleworth Viaduct to great effect. The loco in the pic is Freightliner class 66, 66550, with a Roxby - Brindle Heath working of empty 'binliners'. The pic is dated 6th June 2013.
