Winwick, UK and The World

Today, 18th July 2012, I am using eleven pics showing railway subjects taken around Winwick, in other UK locations and in Switzerland.

WINWICK

First up is a pic from Jeff Nicholls. Two DRS class 20s, 20308 and 20309, are shown passing northbound, through Winwick, with a motley collection of passenger stock on a Stratford-on-Avon - Carlisle railtour. The pic is dated 7th July 2012.

 Code - July W6

Next, pic number two, has been sent in by Geoff Monks. DRS class 47, 47805 (47790 on the rear) is pictured heading north, through Winwick, with the Northern Belle 'special'. It was running Liverpool Lime Street - Bank Quay (pick up) - Alnmouth. The pic is dated 14th July 2012.

 Code - July W7

Alan Rigby has sent in pic number three, taken at Monks Siding on 4th July 2012. The working was a FFPS - Ellesmere Port coal empties, hauled by Freightliner 'PowerHaul' class 70, 70015.

Code - July W8

EWS (DBS) class 90, 90028, is up next in pic number four from John Smith.  John thinks that this working was a sleeper 'positioning ' move through Winwick on 11th July 2012.

 Code - July W9

The fifth shot in this section is from Jeff Nicholls. Three EWS (DBS) class 92s - 92025, 92027 and 92011 - are depicted on a trial coal run through Winwick on 11th July 2012.

 Code - July W10

ALTERNATIVE UK PICS

A second shot from John Smith is up first in this section, pic number six, overall. The Teifi Railway is featured for the first time on our blog (I think?). 0-6-2T loco Sgt Murphy is  pictured at Henllan. The Teifi railway is a narrow-guage railway located at Henllan, around four miles to the east of Newcastle Emlyn on the Carmarthen and Ceredigion borders.

 Code - July A4

Class 08 diesel shunter 08444 is next up in a shot from Paul Holland, pic number seven. The shunter was photographed at Bodmin General on 1st July 2012.

Code - July A5

Pic number eight is a second from Geoff Monks. Colas class 66, 66848, is pictured on the Carlisle - Chirk logs working on 11th July 2012. The location was Helsby.

Code - July A6

Alan Rigby has sent in pic number nine, taken at Euxton on 4th July 2012. EWS (DBS) class 92, 92003 Beethoven, is shown on the Dollands Moor - Irvine china clay working ('not so silver bullets').

 Code - July A7

Ex SE&CR 0-6-0 class 'P', No.323 Bluebell is featured next, pic number ten, from David Quayle. The engine was photographed at Sheffield Park on 20th June 2012.

ALTERNATIVE WORLD PICS

Pic number eleven, the first for quite a while in this Alternative World Pics section, is from David Wood. It was taken on the Brienz Rothorn Bahn in Switzerland on 20th August 2009. Two short trains are shown in a  particularly pictorial, mountain setting. The rack railroad driven by steam engines climbs over a height difference of 1,678 feet and takes about one hour.

Voting continues for the 'Pic of the Month', June 2012 competition. The voting system is simpler than ever - just send me the yellow code numbers of the three pics you have chosen as 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each section, Winwick and Alternatives (UK and World). All June dated pics posted between June1st - July 6th have code numbers. My email address is at the top of the blog. Everyone reading this post is eligible to vote, contributor or not. Following my continued pleas for voters the situation is improving slightly. However, it is noticeable that some contributors who are not voting are doing well in the competitions.

Due to other commitments the on-going July competition will be ended on July 27th so get your July dated pics in before then. No voting until the 28th, though. For the same reason the June competition voting will also end early, on July 26th, so that I can post the results on the 27th July.
