Fourteen pics; Nine Contributors

Yes you read the title correctly - another monster post for today, 4th May 2012. It is also the final post for April dated pics to qualify for the 'Pic of the Month', April 2012 competition. I still have many April dated pics in the bank but it was absolutely impossible to post all of them before today's deadline. Some will, however, appear in the near future.

The steam genre has dominated blog pics over the past couple of months due to the high number of steam loco movements and railtours, coupled with several steam Galas - today is no exception with the Llangollen Steam Gala, again, to the fore.

WINWICK

David Wood's pic of BARS' (British American Railway Services) class 31, 31190, is up first, pic number one. It was taken as the loco stood in Arpley Yard on 30th April 2012.

A rather unusual locomotive is next from new contributor, Harry Tranter. Two Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 locomotives were rebuilt c1942 with new boilers and smoke deflectors. They were 45736 Pheonix and 45735 Comet. The former is shown in Harry's pic taken at Winwick in 1964. Another nostalgic peek down memory lane from Along Winwick Lines (and Harry).

Alan Rigby has sent in pic number three. Featured is Freightliner 'PowerHaul' class 70, 70010, heading a LBT - Ratcliffe PS coal working through Winwick, on 24th April 2012.

The 'Great Britain V' railtour is featured in the following two pics. The first, pic number four, is from Jeff Nicholls. BR 'Standard' class '7', No.70013 Oliver Cromwell, is at the head in Jeff's pic, taken near the River Mersey crossing, on 27th April 2012.

The same working is shown in pic number five from John Smith. This one was taken at Winwick on the same day, 27th April 2012.

Pic number six is from David Quayle. Stanier 'Pacific' No.46233, Duchess of Sutherland, is shown travelling slowly through Winwick. She was held at the lights to allow a couple of Virgin trains to pass. David's pic was taken on 25th April 2012.

Andy Appleton has sent in pic number seven, showing DRS class 47, 47237, passing through Winwick with a couple of  DRS MkII support coaches behind.  Andy's pic is dated 19th March 2007.

ALTERNATIVE UK PICS

Pic number eight is from Bob McClellan, one of a pair taken at the recent Llangollen Railway 9-day Gala. Bob had been working on the railway helping with the Gala. This pic features the Peppercorn class 'A1' 4-6-2 No.60163 Tornado; it was taken on 27th April 2012.
