Winwick; Crewe; ELR; NYMR and Beyond.

As the title suggests this post, 30th May 2012, comprises a huge mix (fifteen) of locomotive classes, steam and diesel, contributed by twelve photographers.

I have so many pics in at the moment (you can tell that the weather is good) that it is impossible to place them all on the blog. Everyone who sends in pics will be represented, however.

WINWICK

First up in this huge, fifteen-pics post, pic number one, is one of John Smith's Red Bank shots. Featured is the Stanier 'Pacific' No.46233, Duchess of Sutherland  travelling north with 'The Citadel' charter on 26th May 2012.

Code - MAY W22

The second shot is from Bevan Price. Two class 60s are shown, EWS (DBS) 60065 and TATA steel liveried 60099, both with coal workings, empty and loaded, in Latchford Sidings. This pic is dated 12th April 2012.

Freightliner 'PowerHaul' class 70, 70002, is shown next, pic number three, from Andy Parkinson. The working was coal and the location, Winwick. Andy's pic is dated 23rd May 2012.

'Royal Purple' liveried class 67, 67006 Royal Sovereign, is shown next in pic number four from Jeff Nicholls.  The working was empty flats for repair, Arpley - Springs Branch, and the date, 23rd May 2012.

ALTERNATIVE UK PICS

A class 20 diesel is up next, pic number five, from Ken Young. The location was Bury on the ELR and the date, 3rd March 2012. The logo is the BR small example.

Pic number six has been sent in by Matthew Chambers and is another example of his low lighting, photographic expertise. Two DRS class 37s, 37606 and 37603, are pictured double heading a charter at Crewe on 24th March 2012.

The seventh shot is from Alan Rigby. Colas class 56, 56094, is shown on a test run with Colas class 47, 47739 Robin of Templecombe. The working was Washwoood Heath - Washwood Heath via Crewe and Derby. The date was 23rd May 2012.

Geoff Monks has sent in pic number eight - DBS liveried class 60, 60091is shown approaching Whiston Station with a LBT-FFPS coal working on 28th May 2012.

Our ninth pic is from Brian Rigby. EWS (DBS) class 66, 66161, is depicted with empty stone hoppers at Clay Cross. The working was Washwood Heath-Peak Forest and the date, 23rd May 2012.

Bob McClellan's pic of class 44 diesel, D8 Peny Ghent leaving Rowsley with a service train on 27th May 2012, is pic number eleven. Bob adds that this is probably what the scene was like in the 1960's when Manchester - St Pancras trains passed through.

A retro shot from the 1960's is next, courtesy of David Quayle. Pictured are double heading  LMS Ivatt class 4MT, 2-6-2 locomotives, No.43011 and 43073 on a freight service (empty iron ore wagons) through Moor Row. The class was built between 1948 and 1952 and numbered 162 on completion.  The pic is dated 3rd June 1966.

The loco is an LMS 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2  but the name/number are not known. This pic was taken by Paul's father in the 1960's; the location was Acton Bridge. Paul owns the Penketh Model Railway Centre with a link to the right hand side of the blog - tap him up for a discount if you go.

Six Winwick; Eight Alternatives

I have received an important email from Rachel Colvil about a future memorial bench for our colleague, the late Ray Whitfield. Please support Rachel if you can. It reads as follows:-

"My name is Rachel and I am a neighbour and very close friend of Olive and the late Raymond Whitfield. I have recently been in touch with Warrington Council to arrange for a memorial bench in Raymond's honour to be placed at the green at Ladywood Road close to where Ray lived. The Council have ok'd this and we are now looking to arrange donations to help cover the costs. Olive has very kindly offered to pay the dfference so I am trying everything possible to raise the funds. I wondered if you would be kind enough to put a link on your website for paypal. I have set up a donations page."
