Back to Normal

For the next three months we are reverting to our normal blog theme of Winwick area pictures. The 'Alternatives' series we ran throughout  December 2011 was very successful with ten pics per post required to fulfil demand.... Incredible. This next Winwick series cannot equal that, especially as the weather has been so lousy for many weeks. However, I will kick it off with five pics from different contributors for this post, 6th Jnauary 2012.

First up is a pic from Colin Platt. Featured is one of Sir Nigel Gresley's finest, 'A4' class 4-6-2 No.60009 Union of South Africa, built in 1937. Privately owned by  John Cameron since 1966, the loco is currently under extensive overhaul at Crewe Heritage Centre. For more info on this loco check out the post of 11th November 2011. The pic was taken at Bank Quay on 10th August 2008 as the 'North Wales Coast Express' was exiting the station.

Next is Jeff Nicholl's shot of the Pathfinder Tours 'Festive Jingle Jangle' railtour of 17th December 2011. The train is headed by DBS red liveried class 60, 60011 and the location is Winwick.

The third pic has been sent in by Matthew Chambers. We don't see many class 158s on our patch but here is one taken at Bank Quay on 21st April 2011. The class 158 portrayed is 158834 in Arriva livery.

Alan Rigby's shot, number four, of the DRS, Stobart liveried class 92, is up next. 92017 Bart the Engine is shown passing through Winwick with a china clay Dollands Moor - Irvine working, on 23rd November 2011.

The fifth and final shot is from Bob McClellan. Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0, No.44996, is pictured double heading a railtour with BR 'Standard' class 4 2-6-0, 76079. The location is Winwick and the date, 22nd October 2005.

REMINDER  Don't forget to send in your entries for the top 2011 photograph described in the previous post. It is important that as many people, contributors / viewers / readers, take part. The previous post describes entry 'rules'.
